When, a fortnight ago, Clifford Mettle was conferred with one of the most coveted individual awards given at this year’s edition of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana’s annual marketing performance awards, this provided incontrovertible evidence that he is at the very top of not just one professions but two of them.

As the latest CIMG Marketing Practitioner of the Year, Mettle has proved to be one of the leading marketing professionals in the country. As the immediate past President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana and Chairman of the Institute’s Governing Council, he had already proved to be one of the top quality banking professionals in Ghana. Combined, this makes him one of the most capable bankers in Ghana today.

As President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB) his exemplary skills and vast experience was deployed to the benefit of the entire banking industry in Ghana. But as an outstanding marketer, evidenced by his recent CIMG award, Mettle is deploying his extraordinary capabilities to the specific benefit of Unibank, where he is currently the Executive Director of Marketing & Alternative Channels,

Indeed, Mettle has played an invaluable part in making Unibank become the fastest growing bank in the country over the past decade, and in enabling it to win numerous awards at the annual Ghana Banking Awards which evidence its superiority in banking SMEs, in customer care and in advisory services.

However, Mettle still deploys his skills and experience to the benefit of Ghana’s entire banking industry in several ways. This enables the industry as a whole to benefit from the knowledge of this outstanding marketer, core strategist, seasoned banker and consummate training consultant, who has core competencies in international trade finance, marketing, corporate and institutional banking and banking operations.

For one thing Mettle has been an associate lecturer and resource person for some of the most renowned and respected institutions such as the National Banking College, the Chartered Institute of Bankers, University of Ghana Business School and the Association of African Development Financial Institutions.

He is also the Moderator of the Finance of International Trade subject at the Chartered Institute of Bankers and is the author of the book “Marketing of Financial Services” which is highly recommended for reading at the CIB and at some of Ghana’s most prestigious universities.

Behind the sheer quality of the man who has proved himself at the top of both the banking and the marketing professions is an array of professional qualifications and decades of working experience.

Clifford Mettle, a holder of an MBA from the University of Ghana Business School, is an accomplished chartered banker from the United Kingdom Institute of Financial Studies, and a Fellow of the Ghana Institute of Bankers. He is also a Certified Marketing Practitioner from the American Certification Institute.

He has held various positions in banking, both at home in Ghana and abroad gathering vast experience, a deep understanding of the peculiarities of Ghana’s financial markets and thorough knowledge of global best practices in some of the world’s financial capitals.

Mettle has worked with GCB Bank at both its Accra and London offices, as well as the then Metropolitan and Allied Bank and National Investment Bank. He has also had extensive stints with Ghana International Bank, London, BHF Bank, Frankfurt and Citibank, New York.

All this makes Clifford Mettle one of Ghana’s most complete, well rounded professionals; and an award winning one at that.
